Kaylene Peoples, Bunny Brunel feat. Patrice Rushen: A Dual CD Release & Bella Composers Launch
On April 8, 2015, the Catalina Bar & Grill in Hollywood hosted a dual CD release concert featuring jazz vocalist/flutist Kaylene Peoples and fusion bassist Bunny Brunel. The event celebrated Peoples’ album My Man and Brunel’s Invent Your Future, and served as a benefit for the newly launched charity Bella Composers, which aims to promote and support women composers in classical and orchestral music.

The evening featured performances by an all-star lineup, including multi-Grammy-nominated pianist Patrice Rushen, guitarist Tony MacAlpine, drummer Tom Brechtlein, saxophonist Doug Webb, guitarist Mark Hammond, and percussionist Monette Marino. Actress Chase Masterson hosted the event, which also included a red carpet, a short documentary screening about Bella Composers, and appearances by notable guests such as Michael Greene, Clint Eastwood, Sheila E., and Bobby Lyle.

Bella Composers, founded by Kaylene Peoples, is dedicated to giving women composers exposure through initiatives like a competition where selected works are performed by a live orchestra, including one posthumous composition. The organization seeks to challenge the gender imbalance in classical music by highlighting the contributions of women composers throughout history.
The concert not only showcased the musical talents of Peoples and Brunel but also served as a platform to raise awareness and funds for Bella Composers, marking a significant step toward greater recognition of women in the field of composition.
